Angama Mara

Set atop the cliff where the world famous movie ‘Out of Africa’ was filmed, Angama Mara, meaning ‘suspended in mid-air’ seems to float above the Masai Mara, offering spectacular views of the Plains.

Guests are accommodated in spacious Tented Suites, reminiscent of a classical African safari, each with breathtaking views. Every detail has been considered: end-to-end glass frontage, sweeping canvas, decks overhanging the Mara, and inside – polished parquet floors and just the right amount of furniture.

The lodge consists of two totally separate and intimate camps, each with a guest area sitting atop a kopje. The architecture is filled with drama, and the red brickwork is inspired by local Maasai technique.

Whenever I think of Angama Mara my heart skips a beat. I hear the score from ‘Out of Africa’ playing in my head, and my dreams now feature soaring hawks and herds of wild animals stretched across the Great Rift Valley.

From the wonderful architecture, location, ease of arrival to most importantly the fantastic staff who cared for us……I had a sense of the gentle natural cycle of life with the various animals in sync, relaxed, not tampered with, behaving just how they should.
