Golf & Other Sports

One of Nairobi’s best kept secrets is its numerous golf courses: scenic 18 hole golf courses boasting lush springy fairways and green islands, warm temperatures and beautifully landscaped gardens.

The most acclaimed clubs are Karen Golf & Country Club, the Windsor Golf & Country Club as well as the legendary Muthaiga Golf Club, which opened its doors in the early 1920s and is nowadays also home to the Kenya Open Golf Championship – part of the European PGA.

Ngong Racecourse

Kenya has a well-developed equestrian culture. In Nairobi, racing is considered a popular sporting and social event. The Nairobi race calendar consists of at least 40 Sunday race meetings (August and September excluded), and Public Holiday races. The most prominent event held at the racecourse is the annual Kenya Derby, which was first held in 1914.

Nairobi Polo Club

Polo is very popular in Nairobi. The Nairobi Polo Club is located off Ngong Road and is home to the ‘sport of princes’ which, in Nairobi, is as much a sporting event as a social one.
