Peponi is a small boutique hotel and restaurant on the exotic island of Lamu in the Indian Ocean. Situated at one end of the spectacular 12km long Shela Beach, Peponi was opened in 1967, and is still owned and run by the Korschen family, retaining the hotel’s charming and welcoming character and its unique atmosphere.
Small and intimate, Peponi is the ideal destination after a safari or to escape the hustle and bustle of modern life. With just 29 rooms comprising apartment suites, superior rooms and standard rooms. Apartments distinguish themselves through their own kitchen, dining and living space. There are two 2-bedroom and one 1-bedroom apartment. Apartment guests can choose to eat any meal in the hotel’s restaurant, served in their apartment or self cater – either with a private chef or by themselves. All rooms face the ocean and have overhead fans, mosquito nets, showers, personal safes and fresh flowers. Superior rooms distinguish themselves through their size and their private verandas with swing beds.
Peponi has a legendary bar and marvellous gardens, boasting one of the largest and most varied collections of exotic plants and tropical palms. Under the shade of coconut trees guest can unwind in the hammocks watching dhows sail by or freshen up in the hotel’s fresh water pool located under two giant baobab trees.
Peponi is simple, fresh, cheerful and everything about it is totally original and genuine – no frozen foods here, nor frozen smiles.
