Ol Donyo Lodge
Situated on the slopes of the Chyulu Hills in an exclusive conservation area of 275,000 acres, Ol Donyo Lodge provides its guests with an eclectic safari experience in a prime wilderness area. Due to the wide range of activities on offer, such as wildlife viewing and tracking, horseback riding and mountain biking, it is an ideal place for multi-generational family holidays, groups of friends as well as for longer stays.
Perched on a hillside, the lodge offers stunning views of Mount Kilimanjaro. With a total of 20 beds in seven individually designed cottages, Ol Donyo offers complete privacy. The spacious bedrooms are comfortable with luxurious décor and ensuite bathrooms with superb views, twin vanities, a shower and bath, as well as an additional outdoor shower. All the cottages have their own rooftop verandas with ‘star-beds’ where guests can enjoy dramatic sundowners, while five of the cottages have their own private swimming pool.
One of the best things about this trip I felt, was how this natural order is maintained – we, the small huddle of horsemen, were completely insignificant to the greater landscape. It felt completely real and natural.
Scottish & Northern Equestrian (about Ride Kenya)
We are by no means experienced horse riders but we can all ride to a basic level, and found riding their beautiful horses (they have 23) over the plains amongst giraffe with mount kili as the backdrop, a superb African experience that will not be easily forgotten.
Ol Donyo is a once in a lifetime experience. From arriving in a tiny plane which had to circle the ‘run way’ to clear it of wildlife, to the realisation that it is literally the only lodge in the area, and the only other tourists you’ll see are those staying in the lodge with you, Ol Donyo was incredible.
